Band History written by Ed Sewall In 1982, myself (Ed Sewall), Jim Monterose and Mike Delorenzo decided to form a hardcore punk band. We had been friends in High School and had similar musical interests including punk, fusion and metal. Jim (guitar) and Mike (Drums) had played in rock bands in the 70’s together, but I was not a musician of any sorts when I picked up the bass. We started putting together a bunch of songs and practiced often together with the early Chronic Disorder, also from South Windsor. I also played bass with Chronic at that time and played out with Chronic twice at Trinity College in early '83 when both bands played together - as well as when Chronic opened for the Freeze. We played out in Connecticut at the standard punk venues including Brother's and Pogo's. We played with bands like Jack Tragic, TSOL, Hüsker Dü, Legal Weapon, Kraut, CIA, Reflex from Pain, Chronic Disorder and many others. We made a studio tape at Real Art Ways (RAW) in Hartford in April of '83 with most of our stuff on it as well as a few covers. The quality was ok and we never recorded anything after that. The tape, called Cerebral Hemmorage, was available for sale from me through an ad in Maximum Rock'n'Roll back in '83 and I only sold about 25 copies. Two songs from the tape were recently released on the Dionysis CD called Shielded by Death - Busted at the Lit Club Vol. 1 released in 2002. We played together for one year and then disbanded when I decided I was sick of Connecticut and moved to Cape Cod. Jim and Mike also moved and that was the end of Target Cells. I had a tentative invite to be the bass player in the Freeze but when I found out they never practiced I decided to forget it. All of us moved away from New England and never played in any other bands. |
