Laurie Gail Woods

I am a graduate student in the linguistics department of New York University. My research interests include sociolinguistics, sociophonetics, language & gender, and language & identity.

My dissertation, for which I will be conducting fieldwork in the fall of 2003, concerns language use and language change in the American South. In particular, I am interested in how traditional notions of southern identity -- like the Southern Belle -- affect how young southerners use language.
