That would be me - Rob Anderson. I started my professional audio career as an assistant at Astoria Soundworks recording studio. As a lover of classical music and jazz, I turned to on-location recording. I started my own recording business back in 2003 and I have had the great pleasure to record such artists as Jimmy Cobb, Arturo O'Farrill, Trio Solisti, Frank Glazer, Melissa Errico, Max Raabe, Vox Vocal Ensemble, The Choral Symphony Society, The Brooklyn Chamber Music Society, SONOS Chamber Orchestra, Vladimir Nielsen Piano Festival, Morton Subotnick, JG Thirlwell (aka Foetus), They Might Be Giants, Ken Adams, Kamau Adilifu (aka Charles Sullivan), Mark Adams, William Hammer and many others.
In the course of my career, I've been confronted with recording a great diversity of instruments including a Renaissance viol consort, an orchestra of laptops (PLOrK), a hurdy-gurdy, Antarctic rocks (in live performance), a conch shell, Gamelan orchestra, robots in live performance (LEMUR), and Richard Rodgers' grand piano. I have recorded so many premiers that I have lost count, but among the highlights are the American Premier of Karl Jenkin's Requiem, the World Premier of David Jaffe's Underground Economy, and the New York Premier of John Cage's A Dip in the Lake. Last season, I had the pleasure of recording the first performance of Bruce Odland's and Sam Auinger's Requiem for Fossil Fuels, and most recently I recorded the world premier of Joan Tower's Can I. As a freelance engineer, I currently assist Tonmeister Leszek Wojcik at Carnegie Hall (and elsewhere) and I recently joined the crew over at Aura Sonic Ltd.
In addition to the recording business, I am an Adjunct Lecturer for the Music Technology program at Queensborough Community College CUNY.
I spent some time working as a singer and "club-date" pianist. My performing career has led me through venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to The Rainbow Room. I have served as a ringer and a soloist for numerous choirs throughout the city, and I still manage to sing on occasion, performing with The New York Cantata Singers as well as the Concert Choir of the New Apostolic Church. I am also musical director of that organization's Bronx, NY congregation.
I hold a MM in Music Technology (Tonmeister Honors Sequence) from NYU's Steinhardt School, earned my BS in Information Systems Management (minor in Music) from York College, CUNY, my AAS in Music Technology from Queensborough Community College, CUNY, and I also studied voice for a time with Joyce McLean at Juilliard.
