[1]'s' stands for "stranitsa," the Russian word for "page."

[2] Hereinafter, the numbers on the left margin are Alexander Vassiliev's indications of page numbers in the source KGB intelligence File 43173, vol. 1.

[3] "Sh/t" – short for "shifrotelegramma."

[4] When making notes, Vassiliev obviously used abbreviations to save time. The full words will be spelled out in square brackets.

[5] This and the following notes on the right margin look like notes made by Vassiliev, probably originally written for Allen Weinstein, or perhaps for the purpose of his London trial deposition.

[6] Pronounced in Russian as [A-les].

[7] A part of the sentence was clearly lost as a result of imperfect scanning. The files of David Lowenthal have only a single scan of this document. The text on the next page in the Jury Bundle (309B) begins in mid-sentence with the Russian word "kotoraja" – an equivalent of "which" or "that" in the feminine gender, indicating that the missing Russian noun on the previous page was also in the feminine gender (and was most probably "gruppa" – "group"). To all appearances, the scan of Jury Bundle, page 309B is complete and unabbreviated.

[8] Sic in Russian.

[9] On Jury Bundle, page 309B, the March 5 cable is followed by a selection Alexander Vassiliev made from page 94 of the same KGB file. Clearly, Vassiliev added this brief reference as a supplement to March 5, 1945 cable.

[10] "o/r"– abbreviation for "operativnyi rabotnik."
