Introduction: The American Eskimo (Eskie) is a dog breed that originally came from Germany. They are decedents of the Spitz breed, and have been used to as watchdogs in the past. Fascinatingly, these dogs used to be used in circuses and that is how their popularity grew. In 1994, The American Kennel Club recognized the American Eskimo as a breed. There are three different standards of the American Eskimo: standard, toy, and miniature. Though primarily Eskies are white, they can also be off white or tanish. They normally have black nose and eyes, but this can also be brown in color.
