


Brian E. Hoskins has a BA in Music Education from Washington State
University and a Master Degree in Music Education from the Steinhardt School at New York
University. He currently serves as the choral director at Nelsen Middle School and Lindbergh High School in
Renton, Washington, teaching choral music. He is a two-time
recipient of the “Ahead of the Class: Excellence in Teaching Award” given to
outstanding teachers by the Renton Chamber of Commerce.
In May 2006, Brian’s Concert Chorus had the
honor of performing with New York composer and jazz pianist Pete Malinverni.
The occasion was the West coast premiere of Malinverni’s "Joyful!”, a
gospel suite for gospel choir and jazz ensemble. Read the review of the

Brian was a Conductor in
Residence, Satellite School Conductor and Intermediate Chorus Conductor for the
Young Peoples Chorus of New York City
in 2004. Through the YPC Satellite School Program
in New York City Brian conducted 6-8 grade chorus at IS218 and 5th grade
chorus/general music at the Harlem KIPP S.T.A.R Intermediate
School. In July of 2004, Brian had the honor of performing with and
accompanying the Young Men's Chorus and Concert Chorus of the YPC in their Gold
Medal winning performances at the World Choral Olympics in Bremen, Germany.
Brian studied music education
philosophy with Dr. David Elliott at NYU.
If you are a teacher, you must read his book, "Music Matters". As a
pianist, Brian has studied classical piano with Dr. Gerald Berthiaume, WSU, and
Dr. Calvin Knapp, PLU, and jazz piano with Dr. Charles Argersinger, WSU, and
Pete Malinverni, NYU. Brian
studied choral conducting in New York with Francisco Nunez, founder of the
Young People’s Chorus of New York City and world-renowned composer. Vocally, Brian studied under Paul
Klemme, WSU, and David Rives, NYU.
Brian has accompanied four MENC and one ACDA honor choirs as well as
various soloists and ensembles for the Young Peoples Chorus, NYU, WSU and
community. Brian is also featured on an album (“Songs to Get You From Here to
There”) with Seattle folk artist Wes Weddell, playing the Hammond-XK2, and
performs with the Wes Weddell “Super Band” throughout the year
