This is where I post some of the academic papers I've written, as well as other stuff I've done for class. A lot of the material is very dry and stretches well over ten pages typed and double-spaced, and the titles are always bland and much too long, so why you're looking through this stuff, I'll never know. But more power to you if it actually fascinates you, and are actually patient enough to put up with reading what I've written.

Fall 2002

Italian Fascism - Ruth Ben-Ghiat
Victim, Madama and Revolutionary: The Characterizations and Roles of the Ethiopian Woman Under Fascist Italy
In this paper, I researched the role of Ethiopian women during Italian colonization, not only as victims, but as rebels as well.

History of the Southeast Asian Diaspora - Ananya Mukherjea
The Dichotomy of Chastity and Sexual Appeal in South Asian Communities in America
For this paper, I decided to research the "virgin-whore" double-standard imposed on women of all societies, and how, specifically, it was unique to the South Asian Community.

Spring 2003

Topics in Irish-American Popular Culture - Mick Moloney
A Comparison of The History of Irish & Asian Stereotypes in America
For our term paper, we were supposed to pick a topic, so long as it had to do with some kind of aspect of Irish popular culture. I decided to do a comparison of the way Irish were perceived in popular culture during the great wave of migration during the 19th century and the way Asian immigrants are perceived in popular culture now.

Workshop: Historical Nightmares in Literature and Film - Yanni Kotsonis
Trial By Fire: The Role And Purpose of Human Suffering in Literature - In a nutshell: two authors say suffering is good, two others say it should be avoided at all costs. Find out why they're both wrong. ^_^

Thy Will Be Done - For my final exam, I opted to write dystopic fiction. After reading this story, many of my friends finally became convinced that I was either one of two things: painfully sacreligious, or brutally insane.
