ENERGIE G
Band History and Discography compiled by Stinky

Energie G Energie G came into existence in 1979 as one of Prague's first punk bands. The line-up, which stayed the same throughout the band's career, was Krystof Pavek on vocals, Michal Cingros on bass, Matous Forbelsky on guitar, David Cajthaml on guitar, and Jakub Cajthaml on drums, at the time still 15 year-old kids. Their punk was really simple stuff, influenced by early English punk bands like Chelsea and Sham 69 (as indicated by their choice of "Ulster" as cover). From beginning, the band was helped by folks in the Czech musical underground, and on November 4th, 1979, they helped organise their first gig.

In November 1980, musical journalist Chris Bohn from London's New Musical Express magazine visited Prague in order to research material about the unofficial musical scene landscape in the Eastern Bloc countries. In Prague he met with members of various bands including Energie G, which resulted in an article about his "excursion behind the curtain to eastern rock prohibition areas". About a year later, national security heard about this "seditious material" and step by step processed individual members of Energie G. They were forced to sign a resolution stating that they would dissolve the band. So in 1981, Energie G broke up. In its lifetime, the band played around 20 gigs, the funniest of which was their first show, where the shocked venue organiser switched off the electricity after three songs. There does exist several solid gig recordings, but none of them were officially released...
