MRR Staff Interview from Ripper #5
Tim Tonooka, the editor of Bay Area zine "Ripper," spoke with the staff of Maximum Rock'n'roll, which in 1981 was still only a radio show. I think the things Tim Yo, Jeff Bale, Ruth, and Jello have to say are still relevant today (for better or worse).
Rap Session from MRR #8
A really great discussion/interview from 1983 with Ian MacKaye from Minor Threat, Dave Dictor of MDC, and Vic Bondi of Articles of Faith. They talk a lot about the role of politics in punk rock, and it's especially interesting to hear Dave grill Ian about his song "Guilty of Being White" and hear Ian's motivations for and defense of the song.
Shooting the Shit from MRR #9
Maximum Rock'n'roll printed this 1983 discussion with Jello Biafra (DKs), Vale (from the Search & Destroy zine), Jeff Bale and Tim Yohannan (MRR), and Frank Discussion (of the Feederz). They cover a lot of ground - from American culture (or lack thereof...), to punk as a social and cultural revolution, to "selling out," and so forth. Very interesting.
Lou Giordano Interview
Lou Giordano was the producer/soundperson for many of the first Boston hardcore records. This interview is from Maximum Rock'n'roll in 1993. It reappeared in the awesome Rehash zine (which is where I got it from).
Flipside Poll stuff from 1985 and 1986
Kind of interesting stuff (if you can read it...)
