Reviews:

Here the Big Boys really began to diversify their sound, breaking out more straightfoward hardcore songs and unfiltered funk. To paraphrase something Ian MacKaye once said about Fugazi's Repeater, this EP feels like the menu to the full course meal that was the Big Boys live show. "Fun, Fun, Fun" is the heart of the record, but even that feels more like an attempt to capture the fun and insanity of a live show than a self-contained studio recording. This isn't to say this record isn't great, it is. "Apolitical" shows the Dead Kennedys influence that would mark most of the Big Boys' hardcore songs (at least in Biscuit's Jello-esque vibrato). Their "Hollywood Swinging," complete with horn section, is to Kool in the Gang's version what Minor Threat was to the Monkees. Even the more reserved dub-funk of "We Got Soul" dishes out more energy than the average hardcore song. Not as focused as their later records, this EP captures the raw, unrefined energy of the early Big Boys.
