Kindly put, this is an attempt to step beyond the limitations of hardcore punk that didn't quite work... While not without its moments, for the most part Beware the Savage Jaw is a disappointment. The opening track is good, an upbeat melodic punk song reminicent of their material on the split LP. Unfortunately the rest of the record drags on from there. All punches are pulled - just when a song seems like it's about to get interesting, the band falters. The guitar is buried in the mix, while the vocals are way too loud, and when Johnithin Christ tries to sing, you just gotta cringe. "Touch of but my hand, my heart fills desires"? No thanks.
