Reviews:

"Eight Miles High" was already a great song, but I don't think that on his worst trip Roger McGuinn could have dreamed of what Bob Mould would do to it. The song in the hands of the Huskers is wrenched totally out of proportion, beaten and torn up until it dies screaming and shredded. Mould's guitar, whether picking its way through a maze of shrill notes or lapsing into a wash of feedback, is relentless, but his voice is unbound. The vocals on the song start out manic, but degenerate into some kind of primal scream that leaves language behind in favor of raw unfiltered emotion. Mould howls his way through the final verse and the band comes to a gasping halt. The song pulls you in and out, with Grant Hart laying down tension with the toms until Mould is ready to explode again. This is undoubtedly the best cover song I've ever heard, and possibly my favorite picture sleeve as well.
