The love affair may not be over, but the band that could do no wrong (or so I thought), over the last three years may have finally started believing that they are every critic's darling and all new releases will be praised. "Flip Your Wig" lacks the passion musically and lyrically that first allowed them to break the "hardcore" label. Instead of the genuine article, most of the cuts come off as a rushed cliché of the "Hüsker Dü records immortality in 73 hours" formula.
What is usually characterized in their albums as a release of built-up emotion bursting out of your speakers, is unfortunately absent with "Flip Your Wig." Hüsker Dü convey all the pizzaz of a band fulfilling a contractual obligation in order to be released financially from their current label.
With this record, the band proves that they are indeed human, I just hope their new record company can keep the myth alive.
