Reviews:

One of the greatest hardcore records ever - totally focused on releasing feelings of anger and frustration, no bullshit filler ("Evacuate" throws me for a loop sometimes, but it's still a good song). In my opinion, this one is just as good as the 7". I think the production is a little too slick (the guitar could have used more distortion or something...) so the 7" sounds more raw, but I like the songwriting even better on the LP. Reissued on the Total Recall CD, which is essential listening for disgruntled youngsters (like me) out there.

This is a great LP, definitely better than a lot of second records in the early 80's, but it just does not compare to the seven inch. For one thing, there are 10 songs on the seven inch, and there are 10 songs on this LP- meaning one thing- *longer songs*. This from the band that brought us "Pressure" (!!!) and "Whatever I Do." In style, it is mostly an attempt to replay the seven inch- gang vocals, the occasional breakdown, same tempos; but there are a couple of songs that *obviously* do not belong: "Evacuate," which sounds sort of like later BLACK FLAG (and is awesome), and "Deadstop" which reminds me of AC/DC. These two songs, which definitely are stylistic departures, really keep the record interesting, because most of their usual hardcore songs don't hold up (especially under the scrutiny of this slick recording!). The good hardcore songs on here are: the title track, "I'll Survive," and "Nothing." The other songs are ok but not as memorable/magical as NA showed they could be. Anyways, it is almost a moot point to review this record, because unless you are rich, stupid, or old, you have this on the Total Recall CD and have grown to appreciate it along with the EP and the raw brutality of the live tracks. (What's up with the cover, by the way?!)
