This CD includes the legendary Siege demo and comp tracks, often bootlegged and finally officially released by Relapse in 1998. Songs 6-8 were recorded in 1985 for Pushead's Cleanse the Bacteria international hardcore compilation LP, the rest were recorded in early 1984 for a demo tape.
Siege set a new standard for hardcore brutality. Like many bands before them, they held nothing back in terms of anger and frustration, but what set them apart from their contemporaries was the fact that they played faster and heavier. What's more, the songs are well-written and interesting. "Conform" (my personal favorite) combines all-out thrash mayhem with stop/starts and a sickeningly catchy slower part in a way than most bands can only dream of doing. Also, in the middle of one song, the whole band stops for about 3 seconds for the bass player to do this crazy bass break (it basically sounds like he's hitting random notes) before picking up again at top speed as if nothing had happened. Fuckin' great!
