This unique six-weeks program is held in collaboration with NYU Technology Program. Open for undergraduate and graduate student composers, the program offers the individual young composer, the opportunity to write a new work under one of the following categories:

an instrumental composition of 1-7 players (intrumentation to be chosen)

         an interactive electro-acoustic piece

         an electronic composition

The tentative ensemble available this summer:

ICIA Ensemble: Flute (also picc, alto & bass fl), Clarinet (also Bass Cl.), Trumpet, Trombone, Violin, Cello, Piano

In addition the students will meet several visiting composers and performers in lectures, and in music performances.

The work of the students will be rehearsed, performed and recorded by our experienced contemporary music musicians. The dress rehearsal and final concert are recorded and edited for a CD in the final week, by a team of professors and students from the Temmer Tonmeister Program.

Each student will receive 2 copies of the final edited CD, containing his/her work, or upon request, all of the works performed and recorded in the class concert.

There is a $250 fee, collected for the hiring of the professional ensemble, as well as for the recording sessions.

Student composers are also encouraged to enroll also in the Advanced Instrumental Conducting (E85.2096). It provides an intensive training in the techniques and stylistic perception of Classic, Romantic and Contemporary repertoire. It is also a very important class for the film and music theater composers.

Tentative plan of class activity:

Week 1-3: Lectures, Master Classes, Demonstrations, as well as guidance and advisement related to the progress of writing the new work. Evening guest composers & performers in concerts.

Week Four: Guest Lecture, REHEARSAL 1

Week Five: REHEARSAL 2, DRESS REHEARSAL & CONCERT
