SURINAME

Welcome To The Beating Heart Of The Amazon

Can you imagine yourself standing under a cool, clear waterfall, with nothing but greenery around you? Watching the clear blue skies above you in a warm, soothing tropical climate? That describes a typical weekend getaway in Suriname, one of the most exotic, beautiful, and best kept secrets of the world. Located in South America, bordering both British and French Guyana, under a canapé of luscious green haven, lies my homecountry Suriname. Paramaribo, the nation’s capital, is home to a little over 300,000 people and amongst those the diversity of culture, cuisine, and customs is evident through the daily encounters. Can't wait to get to Paramaribo as soon as possible? Take a flight over the city right now!

It is often said that the Dutch made a mistake when they traded away New Amsterdam (a.k.a. the present Manhattan in New York) in 1667 for this expanse of South American rain forest along the Caribbean coast known today as Suriname. This may be true, but if you prefer palm trees to pavement, exotic bright and colorful parrots to pigeons, and blue skies to skyscrapers, it won't be hard for you to appreciate that the Dutch came away with a great steal such as Suriname.
