Welcome to my Homepage: An introduction to Jazz
Jazz, for many reasons, can be quite difficult to listen to. Without any concept of musical form, chord strutcture, or ear training, it can be easy to get lost in what seems like a confusing whirlwind of notes and rhythms. As a result of this perceived chaotic nature revolving around what is actually a beautiful art form, people tend to shy away from listening to and figuring out the stories that are told through melody.
I do not want to preach about intracacies of music theory in an attempt to make the building blocks of jazz easier to follow. Instead I want to offer a few albums that I beleive may be a bit easier to understand on a musical level ultimately making jazz more enjoyable to listen to.

"Music is your own experience, your thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out your horn"
-Charlie Parker

Jazz grew up in New York City. There is an overwhelming number of jazz venues hosting incredible performances on a nightly basis. Here is a list of jazz venues in NYC.
