Registered in 1991, Phrag. Eric Young was part of the first wave of hybrids utilizing the brilliant Phrag. besseae. For a
hundred years, the phragmipedium color palette had been limited to the subdued hues of green, gold, and pink, and
hybridizing in the genus had all but stalled. However, the discovery of the red/orange besseae in the 1980s rekindled
interest in the genus and set off a flurry of hybridizing that continues to this day. Phrag. Eric Young produces flowers
that range from a light peach to a rich salmon in color, and is a much more vigorous grower than its besseae parent.
