I am back in Philly after a week and a half in the southern U.S. We had a good time, traveling around from Houston, TX, to Lafayette and New Orleans, LA, and to Austin, TX. Ate a lot (seafood, beignet pastries) and I bought things I don't need (film and art books, as well as CDs like Duran Duran's Arena and Thank You, Guns n' Roses The Spaghetti Incident?, The Knack's Get the Knack, and The Doors's The Soft Parade. So Eureka! A skeleton, ghetto version of my films viewed chart . . . Fireballs and Tsunami is hideously obsolete, since I've been away from the luxury of an Ethernet connection. While in LA, Jeremiah and I watched the DVDs of Go (1999) (Doug Liman's MTV editing gives me seizures, but it's oh-so-good), Amy Heckerling's Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) (teen dramedy) and David Cronenberg's The Fly (1986) (Jeff Goldblum's eerily good at being an insectuous scientist . . . but Cronenberg's Videodrome (1983) is better (and Debbie Harry of Blondie co-stars!). We watched Friday (plotless, but Ice Cube makes it enjoyable) in Austin; also in Austin, a bunch of us were lucky enough to hang out at the Alamo Drafthouse (there's no basement in the Alamo Drafthouse) to see Raiders of the Lost Ark . . . it's good, but I prefer Temple of Doom. To get my Cary Grant / Tony Curtis fix, I recently watched Operation Petticoat (1959) - the two of them are so suave it's ridiculous. I started James Cameron's The Terminator (1984) last night, but have yet to finish it. Hey, there's a Terminator 3 coming out next year . . . I hope Guns n' Roses does the soundtrack.
