After eight years of quasi-passive listenings of R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People, I have deemed it one of my all-time favorite albums. The album captures the gentle sound of its predecessor Out of Time, via the inclusion of strings on several tracks; the slow and deliberate pacing of the album's progression coupled with R.E.M.'s garage-band rock sound results in R.E.M's trademark: intricate and subtle rock n' roll.
