Saw Jeepers Creepers today; vaguely reminiscent of low-budget 1980s Lucio Fulci Italian horror films like Gates of Hell and overtly influenced by Tobe Hooper's 70s classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the film follows a brother and sister's unwilling descent into an underground torture chamber / cemetery -- and rural hell -- sparked by a high-speed highway stalking nightmare. The first thirty minutes are especially terrifying, and the remainder is surprisingly frightening, non-cliched yet self-reflexive of the genre, and well-crafted. License plates, sewers, and churches -- sinister staples of the film's setting -- complete the effect of the uncanny as suggested by Jason. Gina Philips and Justin Long are surprisingly strong leads.
I'm finishing up reading Ben Stiller and Janeane Garafalo's Feel This Book. It's my second time reading it, and let me tell you: It doesn't get any better than this!

Speaking of literacy, I recently completed reading Bret Easton Ellis' American Psycho (1991). Ellis' scathing satire on yuppie culture in 1980s Manhattan is a good blend of witty and frightening. Mary Harron's film adaptation is just as swell, but with most of the gore cut out.
