"It's getting to the point where you're almost afraid to go to a movie with Mark because John Paul Jones' second cousin might be an extra in it." (you should really read the article at The Onion).
Do you remember Band Aid doing a collective charity song for Africa in 1984? The collaboration only produced the best Christmas song ever, "Do They Know It's Christmastime?" Yes, the lyrics by Bob Geldof are pretty rancid, but who can resist a huge group of 80s pop rockers like Boy George, Bananarama, and George Michael. Band Aid's tune is superior to the rest! (well, besides Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" and Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You"...and that Hall & Oates song is awesome, the video is even better...but wait, RUN DMC's "Christmastime in Hollis Queens" is probably the raddest 80s old school rap about Christmas, ever. Alright, Band Aid's "Let Them Know It's Christmastime" beats out all of these aforementioned holiday songs, for sure) If anyone can find me a photo of the musicians recording the song -- which has proved to be nigh impossible to me -- I would be very, very greatful!
"And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime. The greatest gift they'll get this year is life. Oh, where nothing ever grows, no rain or rivers flow. Do they know it's Christmastime at all? Here's to you, raise a glass for everyone. Here's to them, underneath that burning sun. Do they know it's Christmastime at all? Feed the world. Feed the world! Feed the world! Let them know it's Christmastime again. Feed the world. Let them know it's Christmastime again!"
Tonight I saw Penny Marshall's new movie, Riding in Cars with Boys. I was more entertained by my popcorn than the film. Full review soon to come. Here's a picture of my popcorn's self-contained hand-held point of view shot (my popcorn must have been as unenthused during Riding in Cars With Boys as me because by the middle of the movie it disappeared). I miss my popcorn.
"Hey kid, you want a cookie? Me too...give me one!!" (does anyone remember Ben Stiller's famous, similar line in Spielberg's Empire of the Sun?
Someone should give this subway car a speeding ticket!
The men in black are back. 7th Street is an alien warzone! My apartment's beautiful view no longer includes the bar, Burp Castle, across the street. The view now consists of a plethora of film equipment because the sequel to the 1996 Will Smith-Tommy Lee Jones fiasco is being shot although roadies tell me the major stars will remain scarce and we'll only be seeing their stand-ins for the next several days and maybe Will Smith will sample his very own "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" for the sure-to-be-illustrious soundtrack offering that Sony will be pushing down our cerebrum oblongatas via MTV and massive radio play and don't forget the inevitable Taco Bell tie-ins with that little chihuahua chasing the talking bulldog from the first movie or something like that. Buy gorditas because aliens like them!!!! Guerilla production stills coming soon!
