I just got into Philly a bit ago. Due to excessive amounts of school-free spare time, I'll most likely play around with the site for the next few weeks until my eyes go crossed.
Just saw Lord of the Rings. Maybe I'll write a review this week. There's a lot to write about it.
In other news, I'm going back to Philly tomorrow for winter break. I can finally sleep in, catch up on my email, and read some non-school books. Sweet!
Since Jeremiah did a top five list of his 2001 favorite films, I'm making out a list, too. I'm sure it will change in the next 11 days, though. But here it is, in no particular order: Mulholland Drive, Vanilla Sky, Amores Perros (Love's a Bitch), Donnie Darko, L.I.E., The Princess and the Warrior, The Anniversary Party, A.I., Training Day, Ocean's Eleven, The Man Who Wasn't There, and if you count re-releases and redux, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Apocolypse Now.
My list will not include Hannibal, Bridget Jones' Diary, Driven, Made, Planet of the Apes, The Others, Rush Hour 2, Riding in Cars With Boys and Heist.
At the New School University today, I participated in a psychology experiment. They tested me on flowers and gender stereotyping. Good times. They paid us ten bucks. That's all I need. And a hot meal at a fair price.
If I tried to write a film review for Vanilla Sky, I wouldn't know exactly where to begin. I was most struck by the aesthetics of the film's art design and the dreamlike narrative. Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise are amazing. I'm enthused that Cameron Crowe is branching into mature dramas about adults -- don't get me wrong, I love Say Anything and Singles -- but this is truly a great deviation from his normal style of direction.
