Jeremiah and I are having a great time in Philly! I'm taking him to South St. in Center City Philadelphia today...and I hope to persuade him to eat a cheesesteak. 'Cause we're good at that here.

I never thought I'd say this, but Carson Daly's new late night talk show is good. He's a talented host (as much as I have poked fun at Carson's other show, Total Request Live). He seems to do extensive research for each interview, and has a decent sense of humor. I'm waiting patiently for Simon LeBon to be the featured guest!

The Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center is currently doing War and Peace. I was lucky to get to see it tonight -- the production was fabulous. Great art design, an amazing orchestra, and four hours of awesome Russian operatics. After the show, I had a strange encounter on the subway at 49th St. Some guy had a knife (a very long, sharp one). He was standing on the platform holding it in plain view, creeping everybody out. Eventually, people moved to the far ends of the platform to avoid him. He ended up getting on the same train as me when the subway came, but he kept to himself and got off a few stops later. Very strange.

Any joke based on 2001: A Space Odyssey's HAL 9000 is bound to be excellent!

On the NR subway line, two trains will often run alongside each other until one gains speed and leaves the other in the dust. People in each train usually ignore riders of the parallel train, but I waved at an elderly man and showed him the camera. To my surprise, he smiled back and even posed. Within a few seconds, the passenger behind him pulled out his camera and took a picture of my train! It was very exciting. At any rate -- no pun intended -- here is the somewhat blurry photo of the older man smiling at the camera.

Another train. It's moving pretty rapidly, but I bet there is a lot of photography going on in there!

Chairs and graffiti in Columbus Circle. That could be an awfully cool band name.

Steven Spielberg made some politically correct cuts to the rerelease of E.T. For example - Spielberg said, "There's no reason why the word terrorist belongs in a film like E.T., and we were being glib in the early 80s with Mary saying, 'You will not go out dressed as a terrorist.' Now she says, 'You will not go out dressed as a hippy.'"

Spielberg rules!

In stand-up comedy, you can't go wrong. The bad jokes are good, and the good jokes are bad-ass. My roommate won ten tickets to the New York Comedy Club, so some of us went again last night. That place is damn cool! Despite the often torrential rain on the way up there, we had a good time. I wish I took pictures of the downpour!

This deer statue resides in an East Village public garden.
