I'll be a monkey's uncle! ABBA: The Movie is playing in the city! When I called The Screening Room's box office to inquire about getting tickets, and the crowds I thought I would have to endure, this is the conversation that ensued:
Me: So how early will I have to show up to beat the crowds? Guy: Not very early. Me: You mean there won't be the ABBA cult crowd battling for tickets? Guy: I think the crowds are in Florida. Me: Why do you say that? Guy: (sarcastic / dubious) Because I highly doubt they're coming to see the ABBA movie. Me: Blasphemous!!
The screening of Milos Forman's Amadeus tonight was excellent! It was the director's cut with twenty additional minutes of footage - this longer cut will apparently be on the DVD version. Afterwards, Forman fielded a lot of questions from the audience - he seems like such a nice guy! And Tom Hulce...I really wish his career had gotten bigger after doing this movie and Parenthood.
The Joan Jett show last night - damn! That girl knows how to wail. She played most of her singles, most notably "Bad Reputation," "Touch Me," and "I Love Rock n' Roll," as well as a lot of pop covers, tons of improv and engaging with the audience. When a fight broke out in the pit, she leaned down and played directly into the kid's face, which got him settled down rather quickly! The show was plenty loud, very crowded, and I snagged a Runaways t-shirt afterwards. If she's coming to your town, prepare to rock.
Joan Jett last night was a-m-a-z-i-n-g!! I'll write up a review very soon. Tonight Amadeus is playing on campus, and director Milos Forman is supposed to take questions afterwards. Rock.
The taping of "Jeopardy!" was great! They taped three shows in a row...which means Alex Trebek got to change into a fantastic new suit for each episode! It was difficult to resist the urge to call out the correct answer from the audience. I kept joking about my fascination of the exposure of the "seedy underworld" of television...but that's not valid because my definition of "seedy" refers to Alex Trebek having to re-tape a few minor misread questions. Well, I thought it was funny at least!
Despite some of the unnecessary cuts (I was especially intrigued by the strange line, "You are not leaving this house dressed as a hippie!" (formerly "terrorist"), Spielberg's rerelease of E.T. is awesome!! It was nice to see a wide range of ages at the Union Square show this weekend. I forgot how much I really enjoy that movie.
I wound up with tickets for the special taping of "Jeopardy" at Radio City Music Hall today. A-w-e-s-o-m-e!!!
