Dana and I spent hours at Esperanto Cafe in the West Village today, furiously typing up our presentation for this year's Cinema Studies Student Conference, which is next weekend. We're giving a presentation on teen horror of the 1970s-1990s, fandom, and its cultural significance and modern repercussions. Rock. Do try to visit Dana's site - he offers lots of lots of dope horror film reviews!
My parents called last night to tell me that my kitty, Midnight, died. I got him when he was a baby in 1990. The veteranarian told my parents that he must have had a heart attack - he was very fluffy (well, overweight, actually). I miss him. I hope he is reincarnated as something/someone rad.
Whew! What a long week. I still have a mess of papers to write in the next few weeks, but my summer course schedule is at least secured and out of the way. I'll be taking twenty credits, including two history courses, Postwar America and a Global History; two film classes, Films of Martin Scorsese and a Gangster Film class; and independent study, which entails writing a monstrous research paper by summer's end. I'll actually be done my degree by August, instead of next May. Rock! Anyone else staying in the city over the summer?
Photos from the MAN.in.GRAY show at Brownies last night (where the mini geek-meet took place! - see full details on Rae's site). Here's a pic of the Kafkaesque (that word rules!) meeting of Tom and Digital Nap, courtesy of Rae.
MAN.in.GRAY rocked at Brownies in the East Village tonight. Jeremiah and Rae introduced me to Digital Nap and Tom tonight - it was so funny that we sort of know each other by each other's websites. I love meeting people in person that I know through weblogging. Very surreal. Photos tomorrow!
Did anyone catch the Cameron Diaz-hosted Saturday Night Live last night? Cameron and Will Ferrell had a dance-off during the opening monologue. It was classic!!! Man, I love that show. My alltime favorite skit is "Land Shark," from the 70s. That sketch is one of the funniest things I've ever seen on television. Oh yeah, and "Hey, You - The Perfume for One Night Stands" with Gilda Radner (my hero) is a fantastic skit!! But then there's "Remember the 80s" with Goatboy from the mid 90s with Tom Hanks playing Andrew Ridgely, "the other guy" from Wham! That one rules. They all rule.
