The unofficial Paula Abdul song of the day is "Rush, Rush" from the Spellbound album (thanks for the reminder, Eric!), perhaps the best pop rock ballad since Eric Carmen's "Make Me Lost Control / Turn the Radio Up" (my all-time favorite) or "Hungry Eyes."
I think M. Night Shyamalan's new movie, Signs, comes out this weekend. Jeremiah and I saw an advance preview a few weeks ago, and were pretty impressed (except for the questionable / unsatisfying ending). I think Full Frontal comes out, soon, too - looking forward to it.
It seems as if lots of readers are supporting the "Go Paula, Go Paula, Go, Go, Go Paula" Abdul revival. I like the part -- and it doesn't seem I'm alone thinking this -- when she quasi-raps in "Straight Up" the line, "I've been a fool before, wouldn't like to get my love caught in the slammin' door, are you more than hot for me, or am - I - a - page - in - your - history? I don't mean to make demands, but the word and the deed go hand in hand, how about some information, please, please? Ahh please, please?"
Yeah, I love that line. What a great dance song.
I wish I could put MP3s up in this piece, but my NYU webspace is at over 90% of its quota. Boo. At any rate, does anyone know where I can find an MP3 of the 1984 single, "Tesla Girls" by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark? Does anyone remember that song? It rules!
I felt like regressing tonight and popped Paula Abdul's Forever Your Girl into the ole' tape player. Man, this album RULES! I haven't listened to it in years. I nearly forgot about gems like "Opposites Attract" and "Cold Hearted."
I am planning on sparking a Paula Abdul revival -- only Forever Your Girl and Spellbound allowed though. None of that later CrazyCool stuff. Who's going to join me?
I take two steps forward. I take two steps back. We come together 'cuz opposites attract. And you know - it aint fiction. Just a natural fact!
