The topic on the Maury Povich show this morning is children and obesity. One of the guests is a woman whose 5 year old daughter weighs 230 pounds. According to the archival footage, the little girl weighed almost 200 as a baby.
A lot of these parents come on the show and express how concerned they are about the children's eating disorders. How can a baby have an "eating disorder?" Perhaps some babies have unusually big appetites, but seriously. A lot of the footage features babies gorging themselves with high amounts of fried chicken, ribs, et cetera, a phenomenon that the audience seems to find very entertaining. First of all, why would a parent make fried foods and barbeque readily available to their children? Second, it is truly sad to see these parents cry about how their child is facing severe obesity-related health risks, and express confusion over how their child can possible weigh so much for his or her age. For children under five or so, aren't parents generally the influences that shape their child's eating habits? In fact, some of the guests pridefully admit that they feed their children everything they eat themselves, including mass quantities of the aforementioned foods. Do parents neglect to realize that children face major health risks at such disproportionate ages/sizes? Am I being unreasonable here?
Finally! I augmented my links section on the rock page. Now there is more to the page than just a few shoddy Duran Duran links. Not that Duran Duran and shoddy can really be used in the same sentence or anything -- and not like the DD sites to which I was linking were shoddy -- I was simply referring to the amount of links on the page. Rad to the max. Yeah.
Still working on my new design. Looks like it may be up this week! Note for those who link to this page: I plan to get rid of my splash and move this page to its place, so everyone can avoid typing in that extra "home.html" brou-haha. Additionally, I am fairly certain that I am going to begin include downloadable MP3s, too. Because I know you all want to download songs by the Go-Go's and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
Darn. I wanted to be Chandler! I suppose Phoebe is alright, though. Don't forget to comment back on your results -- unless, of course, you refuse to partake in goofy quizzes like me.
