tina - you know what i love about new york?
it is snowing rather heavily, and although it is beautiful to look at it is not so much fun to walk through (i am sitting at my desk at work right now barefoot because my shoes and socks got so soaked) - i've just been running errands, out galavanting around for an hour or so. i stopped in an au bon pain to get a sandwich and after placing my order realized i had $3 in my wallet - not enough to cover it, obviously. so i told them to cancel it, and this lady next to me goes "don't be silly" and shoves six bucks in to my hand. i protested, thanked her but told her i couldn't accept, but she merely said "get it" and walked away. i subsequently went to the bank next door, got cash, broke a twenty and found her to return the money. but what a gesture! thank god even a place like au bon pain, a blight on our city, can be redeemed by one of its natives.
then, on my way back to the office, i passed a school bus filled with hasidic adults. where else on earth is that going to happen?
