This page will list and exhibit the assignments that relate to working with picture files and their manipulation.

Capri

  • This first picture is the original. It is a picture of a rock formation just off the Island of Capri, Italy. Having been there myself I can attest to the fact that the water is really just that immaculate blue color. When first looking for pictures I had decided that I would like some kind of landscape picture with several vibrant colors so as to best demonstrate the changes that could be made with image manipulation software.



    • Erode
  • For this assignment I used the program Paint Shop Pro 8.0 manufactured by Jasc. While I also have Adobe Photoshop I felt more comfortable using this program as it's one I've used for many years. This first picture makes use of the Erode effect (filter). This effect "erodes" the fine details of the color and blends the colors together. This creates an almost Impressionistic feel.



    • Edges
  • This next image makes use of the Edges effect. This effect blurs out the sharp edges in the picture and can almost be seen as an extension of the Erode effect. The colors are further blended and the image looks less like a photograph and more like a painting.



    • Plastic
  • This image uses the Texture effect, with the Plastic Wrinkle setting. As the name states the effect makes the picture look like it is printed on a piece of plastic that was wrinkled and then unfolded.



    • Ripple
  • The Ripple effect is demonstrated in this image. As the name implies the picture is made to look as if it were displayed on a body of water that had a stone thrown into it. I adjusted the settings of this effect by lowering the aplitude and wavelengths so as to provide a more subtle effect.



    • Fine
  • This last effect is the Fine Leather effect. Although called fine leather this effect is really most like a blurring effect. There are cracks in the image to appear as if it were printed on a fine leather surface. The settings can be adjusted to make the image look more leathery but I like the way this image came out.
