Abstract


A new reciprocal space based formalism for treating long range forces in clusters is presented. It is shown how the new formalism can be incorporated into standard Ewald summation calculations, smooth particle-mesh Ewald calculations and plane-wave based density functional theory calculations, to yield an accurate and numerically efficient description of long range forces in cluster systems.
