At school:

Log out & power off your computer and monitor before leaving class.
Use folders to help organize and track your data files.  You must have a folder named "Tech" or "Tech-8"on  your network drive where you keep your work.
Make frequent backup copies (duplicates) of your data files to a USB key.
Don't unplug USB keys until computer is shut down, unless you do a "SAFE REMOVE".
Save a backup of important projects on eCHALK using My Files if you can.
When submitting work to me using D13SHARE:
Open two windows using My Computer icon as follows:
Open one window - your file folder
Rename your file with "period_seat_your_name"
(examples are like 702jane.doc or 315richard.doc)
Open another window - class period's folder on D13SHARE
Drag/drop a copy of your file from your account window to D13SHARE
Don't mess with other people's files !!!
See me if you make a mistake!  Only teachers can delete things from D13SHARE.
When using eCHALK homework drop box, keep an extra copy of the work on your account.
Make sure any work done at home can be transferred to your network account at school.

At home:

  1. Use anti-virus and anti-spyware software.
  2. Do not install any software on your computer unless you are sure it is safe.
  3. Keep your software (especially anti-virus) updated.
  4. Be careful about opening e-mail attachments.
  5. Scan disks and CD's before you open documents on these type of media
  6. Backup important files to removable media (CD's, USB Key, Portable Hard Drives)
