Focus On Copyright In The Digital Age

I expect that you will read the materials thoroughly and take good notes in class...

See the tentative lesson outlines...   See my review questions

The order and content of lessons are subject to change in class; use my website as a guideline.

Checkout the rubric for details on grading on the closing project of this unit. Date due will be announced in class.

Do not 'cut and paste' from the Internet as you write for your closing project - really try to express what you learned by using your own words in this project. Plagiarism is an especially bad idea on this project.

More Links, Hints and Reminders

Links to info and news about copyright (please report broken links!)

Reminder: How to do detailed citations for Tech class.  This is essential for this project.  Citations as plain URL's will not be acceptable for this project.

Vocabulary you should know - keep track of definitions as you work.

Details: The 'closing project' for Copyright In The Digital Age...

After the series of formal lessons are complete, you will create either:

a Newsletter or
an Inspiration map (see small partial sample)
or a PowerPoint

to summarize what you have learned about copyright after we complete many of the step by step lessons.  Use the questions and outlines of my lessons as guides so you include information that is important.

Those who want to do a PowerPoint - requires my prior written approval but is not suggested as a choice.

The newsletter format is preferred and will usually result in a higher grade.  You should discuss essential topics in your newsletter like (but not limit yourself only to):

What is copyright?  Compare / Contrast with patent, trademark
Famous cases of copyright infringement
How technology impacts the ability to enforce copyright
Moral and ethical issues in copyright and plagiarism
Current news issues in copyright
How copyright impacts your life

If you anticipate having difficulty with a newsletter,  do the mindmap.

Newsletters can be produced in MS-Publisher, MS-Word, or your choice.

Do only one project, but note that the grading varies by what you choose.  Make sure you cite all your research sources using my format for either choice !

Please do not use non-primary websites like Wikipedia, About.com, or Answers.com as sources for your work.

Don't forget to read the rubric for the closing project !

Make sure you take notes during each class lecture so that you have additional information for your project !

Clear, grammatically correct writing in your own words is expected, given the importance of the subject, and the amount of time devoted to it in class.  If you expect to need more time, consider extra help or doing work at home.
Excessive amounts of text that are directly quoted, or any work that is plagiarized will reduce your grade to zero without the chance of a rewrite.

Extra credit may be offered to certain students in the form of writing, producing, and recording audio PSA's (Public Service Announcements) or a Play on copyright. A written proposal for such must be approved by me. See me for details in class or at extra help.  You may need to work during my PM extra help or outside school to obtain the credit. Credit applies towards this project only.  Grades of over 100 are therefore possible.
