The assignment where you get to design and complete a new Tech Project ! Summary: Your assignment is to develop an idea for a new tech project for the 8th grade. You will write up specific directions & rubric for completing the project, like a teacher, and then complete the assignment, like a student. The idea and project must be new, original, creative, and educational. You may work in teams, or individually. You will produce a teacher's guide, student work sample & project rubric After you get my approval in writing for your idea, you or your team will work on:
If you fail to get my written approval, or if you submit a project without my approval that does not meet my standards, or if you submit a project that is deemed by me not to be sufficiently educational, you or your team may get a zero for the project. There are no second chances. No work will be accepted after May 31st, regardless of the deadline. Details: You should work in a team of 3 or 2, but be aware that there is a teamwork/behavior grade as part of this project ! If you want to work alone, that is okay, but it means more work for you. The Teacher's guide (minimum 5 pages - MS Word document) must have enough detail that I can hand it to another teacher, who is not a tech teacher (you need to provide exact step-by-step directions) who could use your guide to teach the project to students, without speaking to me or you. You must write in the guide whether the project requires three, four or five days of instructional class lectures, and describe what each lecture, project time and class period covers. You will probably require students to do some research, or obtain data from an online source or website. You must provide several sample websites that students could potentially use and cite these websites (MLA format) in your teacher guide. Do not simply say "students will search the Internet for ....". You should design a minimum of 3 lectures where you explain how to teach the skills needed to do the project, through step-by-step instructions. Assume students have about one week to complete the project. Your teacher's guide should include specific written instructions and screenshots of what the students should do. See my sample outline for an example of the organization of the text of the teacher guide. D13SHARE should have an actual teacher guide on how to do an Excel project. Your teacher guide is expected to be just as detailed, but not as lengthy, unless you have a large group. The Student work sample (PowerPoint, Excel, Inspiration) must be excellent, and show all the features / requirements of your project. The Rubric must be in my grid (MS-Word) format with the 3 categories (Amazing, Good, Unacceptable) and at least 4 measurements / criteria for success. All files must be printed and uploaded to D13SHARE when told to do so. Do not upload before you are told to do so. I prefer a single zipped file, which I will explain in class how to complete. Make backup copies of everything as you work.
A Sample outline for a Teacher's Guide (minimum 5 pages, 10 point font Arial suggested): Title of Project: a short descriptive title for your project Author(s): your names Software programs used / required: list the names of programs to be used by students Project Description: Students will be design / create / a....(describe the completed project in a few sentences). Also explain why you think this is a worthwhile project to work on in school. Sequence of Lectures / Project Time Activities
