You should be familiar with the following basic commands and tasks:

Creating a new file folder for images
Right click "OPEN WITH ADOBE Photoshop Elements" command
Zoom, Resize, Crop, Rotate, Undo, Redo, Magic Eraser, Mode RGB Color
Save for the Web in GIF format

Examples of tools in Adobe Photoshop Elements can be used to make basic adjustments in color and size of images:

Zoom tool - helps you zoom in or out to clearly see specific parts of the image that you want to work with.  This does not affect the actual size of the image.

Crop tool - helps you select and save only the portion of the image you want to use.  Also found on the Image menu bar.  This will change the physical dimensions of your image.
Note: you need to go to the Image menu and select Resize if you want to change the physical dimensions (length and width) of the image.
Advanced tools

Move tool - use with other tools to help you select and move the image around the canvas.  Not necessarily needed for any of the above operations.
Rectangular Marquee tool - select an area

Text Tool - inserts text into an image. Important note: Make sure you have set the Image to RGB mode before you use this tool
