Promoting The Tech-8 class...or Making the News with...

There is a lot to read on this page, so read carefully!

Read the rubric before you do anything else....

Note that average estimated grades are provided as guidelines....

Tech-8 is unlike any other Technology class.

How can you communicate that message to others?

What would it look like if the Tech-8 class made the news (which it has!)

Overview

You are all now "apprentice" advertising or press executives working at the high powered S3 "Silverman, Silverman & Silverman" agency in New York City (with satellite offices in Scarsdale, NY, room D-13)

You have been hired by the creative director of S3, Mr. Silverman, to creatively and positively promote the E H S Tech-8 class to a variety of 'audiences' by developing an audience appropriate press kit (ideally 3 students per team should work together*).  This press kit will show what the Tech-8 class is all about, and how it works, in a positive, constructive manner.  You will also select the target audience.

With my prior approval, you can also develop a press kit to promote:

The Toshiba ExploraVision winners
A social action organization like Taybands, H.O.P.E etc...

The rest of the project may need slight modification for these alternate choices... see me for details in class....

If you are promoting the Tech-8 class...

You have a choice of your 'target' audience.  Choose one:

new student who has just moved into the district
parents attending the open house 'parent teacher night'
audience of Technology teachers attending a conference on Technology education
general public
or I will approve one selected by your team, if appropriate

You have a choice of your lead for the promoting of Tech-8:

this class is the 'coolest', most fun course ever
this class is academically challenging and thought provoking
this class uses the latest state-of-the-art technology at EHS
teacher is the most scholarly and well informed individual, well respected in the Tech community
all of the above
or I will approve one selected by your team, if appropriate

Remember to get my written approval first for:

Team members and team name
Target audience (customer)
Marketing / advertising / press approach
Alternate topic (if any)

Use this form to get my approval for this project.

Then...

Name your team
Decide on roles / responsibilities (who will do what by when)
Start developing a slogan / logo
Begin working on your other deliverables

What you will be producing (press kit / marketing collateral)

The level of writing should be that of a student entering high school.  The press kit or 'marketing collateral' for the Tech-8 course includes:

Design of animated web page graphic logos/icons for futurenorms.org that are entirely original and amazing!
Newsletter about favorite projects in Tech or an overview of the course - use MS-Publisher.  Use the title "What's Happening in Tech-8 Today" if you cannot think of one that is more original !
Digital graphic poster or 'flyer' with 'slogan' and logo that you will design.  Must be entirely original - no clip art or copyrighted images etc. sized 8 1/2 by 11 inches.
Press release for a newspaper article (MS-Word - 10 point font) about an activity in Tech.  Consider using real quotes from your friends in the article.
A 120-180 second fast paced 'infomercial' (self - running PowerPoint - minimum 12 animated slides) giving an overview of the year in Tech class.  It should showcase the various projects we did in Tech, and should use actual work from your projects (print-screens) or other relevant items, or discuss what topics were covered in Tech.  Audio or video work is also acceptable with my prior approval.

All graphics work for the project must be completely original and may not contain copyrighted images or artwork from the Internet or elsewhere !

Hint: Think like an press / advertising agency: Consider creating a character, a theme or overall slogan that will unify or tie all of your deliverables together.

All deliverables will eventually be saved to a team folder on D13SHARE.  Until you are told to do so, please save it in another location that will be agreed to by your team.  Only save to D13SHARE when advised to do so by Mr. Silverman. Keep backups of your work in your own account!

Due date for all deliverables above will be announced in class!

Rubric

Of course, you will read the rubric for grading information !

* You may have a team of 4 students with my prior written approval.  If you have 4 students, and the team does not work together, the entire team runs the risk of getting fired (see the rubric why this could be bad for your grade.)  Stay focused!

Obvious Reminder: Although team members within the same team are expected to work together, it is also expected that there will be no collaboration across teams in any class or different classes!  If there is any work from any team that appears to be duplicated by another team, even in part, both teams will receive a lower grade.

Good luck!
