The NYU Harriers opened their season with a second place finish at the William Patterson Invitational. Held on a challenging course at Garret Mountain Reservation in New Jersey, the Violets like to use the meet to acquaint newcomers to the 5-mile distance and to assess the teams training to date. Despite holding out the top four returnees and missing 3 more of last year's top 7 due to injury, NYU finished second in the thirteen team race, by claiming 5 of the top 15 spots. Leading the Violets in his first race for NYU was freshman Matt McMickle, of New Providence High School. Following Matt was sophmore Les Page, freshman Mike Beebe, freshman BJ Kraska, and freshman Jeff Raybould.
