The
type of kidney stone depends on several factors that
cause the precipitation of a crystal(s) which
eventually either grows or aggregates into a stone.
Urinary concentrations of calcium, oxalate, citrate,
phosphate, uric acid, magnesium, and certain
proteins are believed to promote or inhibit the
formation. Other factors including urine pH (a
measure of the urine acidity) and infections can
also play critical roles.
