The wind on the rooftop was like the giant breath of some demon breathing fire and ice on them and pulling them to heaven, and the wind screamed and the sky opened up above them and lashed them with bullets of rain. Their faces were soaked and the water ran down onto their shirts and across their skin in little rivulets and he put his hand against the side of her wet cheek and the night was howling around them. He said something and the wind took it away. She didn't hear him but she felt his hand and his other hand gentle against the small of her back and the world was breaking into a million pieces around them and everything was ending and everything was beginning and the sky was the color of obsidian black, a shining pulsating black and all the stars had been eaten away. Neon lettering glowed out from behind a curtain of fog and formed impossible symbols that neither of them understood and never had, what were they doing on top of this tall tall building? What was the sky doing opening its mouth and screaming into infinity, why had it eaten all the stars and where was the light and why was the world breaking down the center like that and how fast were they really falling? She felt him close and she felt him closer than her body and her own heart and she felt him go through her and into her and she felt the building beneath them tilt and fall away and they were a falling creature in the broken night and he kissed her and the wind screamed and demanded he regret but he did not regret, and the wind demanded he take it back but he did not take it back, and they fell into each other and away from the shattered universe.
Lightning split the sky and she screamed from beneath him and within him and he felt her cry go through him because it was in him. There was light all around and they were in the shadow and when she felt him kiss her and his hand on her face and the raindrops falling, dripping from the spikes of his hair, she buckled and cried and shrank away in the glare. Their faces were white with electricity and the rain drove into them and ripped them away, ripped their clothes to shreds, and they were naked and shaking and cold and still falling past the speed of sound. Shards of the world stabbed at them from all sides like a broken mirror and they were sliding off the surface of time and they clutched and clung and cried in the roaring vacuum created by the storm and the weeping sky. The lightning grabbed for them and wrapped itself around them and they wrapped themselves around each other as the rooftop caved in and the building collapsed and the street gave way and the city broke in half and the world imploded and fell in onto itself. The raindrops were daggers and the wind was shrieking and howling in their ears and it said take it back, take it back, but he did not take it back and they were alone in the infinite void. The lightning faded and the rain stopped and silence rolled over them like a wave.
They breathed.
